Yo dudes, I remember that bridge! It was just being built when I hitched through two years ago. There was a small auto-ferry that just went back and forth across the river as long as there were cars that were waiting on either side. The guys who worked the ferry lived on it and running it had been their job for many many years. The bridge was just starting to go up when I walked down and got on the ferry, and when it was finished the ferry guys were going to lose their jobs. None of them had graduated high school.
I ended up riding the ferry back and forth across the river for two hours until I finally got a ride north to Coihaique. Crazy to see it finished and to think about what happened to those guys.
